Stampead - The Dog Song

I found a shelter and garden,
on the corner of Fountain and Vine.
It's made for gamblers who lose,
a place for brave men to whine.
Every so often there's trouble,
somebody could lose a life.
I just sit on the back porch,
and eat apples with my knife.
Isabella comes to visit,
she can talk all day and night.
Cursing the republican government,
I can't say if she's wrong or right.
I said I admired her hatred,
I'm not one to take sides.
She kissed me and tried to persuade me,
so I had no choice, I had to lie.
In the morning she left me a letter,
I couldn't make out a single word.
I'm sure it was something outrageous,
about her trying to save the world.
It was then that I got so depressed,
in this world I make no difference.
I just hang out wi

[00:17.49]I found a shelter and garden,
[00:19.32]on the corner of Fountain and Vine.
[00:21.79]It's made for gamblers who lose,
[00:23.99]a place for brave men to whine.
[00:26.12]Every so often there's trouble,
[00:27.69]somebody could lose a life.
[00:30.42]I just sit on the back porch,
[00:32.37]and eat apples with my knife.
[00:34.60]Isabella comes to visit,
[00:36.56]she can talk all day and night.
[00:38.70]Cursing the republican government,
[00:40.60]I can't say if she's wrong or right.
[00:42.63]I said I admired her hatred,
[00:44.85]I'm not one to take sides.
[00:46.79]She kissed me and tried to persuade me,
[00:49.13]so I had no choice, I had to lie.
[00:52.85]
[00:54.51]In the morning she left me a letter,
[00:56.98]I couldn't make out a single word.
[00:59.23]I'm sure it was something outrageous,
[01:01.39]about her trying to save the world.
[01:03.53]It was then that I got so depressed,
[01:05.60]in this world I make no difference.
[01:07.66]I just hang out with thieves,
[01:09.74]spitting apple seeds at the fence.
[01:11.87]So I picked up the LA Times,
[01:13.83]and read to page 22.
[01:16.01]It was there that I found my purpose,
[01:18.14]to help dogs from being abused.
[01:20.17]I began to tell all my friends,
[01:22.18]about these dogs in need.
[01:24.32]I said, “Did you know in some parts of China,
[01:26.30]all the dogs have fleas?”
[01:30.58]
[01:36.61]They said I was crazy,
[01:39.31]laughed and shook their heads.
[01:41.00]Said maybe I would have found Jesus,
[01:42.98]in another girl's bed.
[01:45.12]But I was off to the white house,
[01:46.99]with 6 greyhounds and a sign.
[01:49.31]Practiced my speech to the president,
[01:51.42]I memorized every line.
[01:53.23]After a few days I made friends,
[01:55.56]to help me with my cause.
[01:57.59]We even made the local news,
[01:59.73]chanting, Lets save the dogs!
[02:17.40]
[02:18.21]It brought a tear to my eye,
[02:20.55]they understood what I had to say.
[02:22.58]And just like Isabella,
[02:24.41]I was talking all night and day.
[02:26.63]I was talking at the racetrack.
[02:28.73]I was talking on the radio.
[02:30.78]I was talking at the cathedral,
[02:32.69]and at the pound with my megaphone
[02:35.13]And then one sunny morning,
[02:37.54]preaching at the dog parade.
[02:39.29]I had a crowd of 2,000,
[02:41.42]hanging on every word I'd say.
[02:43.43]I swore I'd see them through.
[02:45.72]We'd fight until the end.
[02:47.63]When a bulldog barked right at me,
[02:49.62]and tore up my left hand.
[02:51.71]As the blood ran down my arm,
[02:53.60]from my elbow to the floor,
[02:55.93]I knew I'd lose my temper.
[02:57.76]I couldn't take anymore.
[03:00.08]I screamed, That's it, I give up!
[03:02.20]These dogs don't give a damn!
[03:04.25]They all called me a traitor,
[03:06.39]said, Go back to from where you came!
[03:09.50]
[03:15.59]So that's just what I did,
[03:18.58]and they welcomed me with open arms.
[03:20.48]And the freshest basket of apples,
[03:22.71]straight from Cortez farms.
[03:24.77]I told Isabella my story.
[03:26.72]I thought she'd understand.
[03:29.11]But she called me a failure,
[03:31.15]and knocked the fruit from my hands.
[03:32.99]I guess maybe she was right.
[03:34.97]I was just a phony from the start.
[03:36.92]But these apples never tasted sweeter,
[03:39.45]and I know who my real friends are
[03:42.93]
