L.T.D.(whichstandsforLove,Togetherness,andDevotion),wasformedinGreensboro,NorthCarolina,in1968,whenArthur"Lorenzo"Carnegie(altoandtenorsaxes,flute,guitar),JakeRiley(trombone)CarleWayneVickers(trumpet,flute,sopranosax)andAbraham"Onion"Miller(tenorsax,vocals),whohadbeenworkingasmembersofthe15piece"FantasticSoulMenOrchestra"backingtheeverpopularduoofSam&Dave,alongwithJimmy"J.D."Davis(keyboards,vocals),formedtheirownbandnamedLoveMenLtd.ThentheydrovetoNewYorkCity,inacarthattheypurchasedtogether(a1956Chevy),andlivedintheHamiltonHeightssectionofHarlemon149thandBroadway,whereTobyWynn(baritonesax)joinedthem.WhileperformingonagiginProvidence,RhodeIsland,JeffreyOsborne(drums,leadvocals)wasrecruitedbythem. AftertwoyearsinNewYork,theydrovetwocarsandatrailertoLosAngeles,California,whereJeffrey'sbrother,BillyOsborne(organ,drums,keyboards,coleadvocals),CelesteCole(vocals),HenryE.Davis(bass,vocals)andRobertSantiel(congas,percussion)joinedthem.1974foundthemsigningwithA&MRecordsasL.T.D.(LoveTogetherness&Devotion).In1976,JohnnyMcGhee(guitar)joinedtheband.Jeffreywasmovedoutfrontastheleadvocalist,withMelvinWebbtakingoverondrumsin1977.WebbwasreplacedbyAlvinoBennetinlate1978. Thegroupthenwentontoproducesongssuchas"LoveBallad","(EveryTimeITurnAround)BackinLoveAgain","ConcentrateOnYou","HoldingOn(WhenLoveIsGone)",andmanyothers.Soonaftertheband's1980albumShineOn,JeffreyandBillyOsbornedepartedtostartsolocareers.AndreRayandLeslieWilson(formerlyofNewBirth)werethenchosenasleadvocaliststheirnextalbumLoveMagicwhichproducedtwomorehits,"AprilLove",and"KickingBack".LeslieWilsonlefttocontinuehissolocareerandL.T.D.stayedbusyinthemusicindustrybyrecordingforsmallindependentrecordlabels,anddoingtheirownpersonalmusicprojects.
