In1972,BushhadaTop20hitwithIllBeThere,whichledtoadealwithRCAandaTopTenhitwithhissongWhiskeyRiver,whichlaterbecameWillieNelsonssignaturesong.JustasBushreachedthebrinkofstardom,hestartedtolosehisvocalrange.Doctorswerenotabletodiagnosethereasonuntil1978,whentheyfoundhehadarareneurologicaldisorder,spasticdysphonia.Thisdidnotpreventhisrecording,buthiscareersoontookadownturn.WorkingwithvoicebuilderGaryCatonain1985,Bushwasabletobringbackabout70%ofhisoriginalvoice.ThefollowingyearheandDarrellMcCallteameduptorecordthesuccessfulhonkytonkalbumHotTexasCountry.HethenassembledalargecountrybandandbeganperformingaroundSanAntonio.In1994,heandthebandreleasedTimeChangesEverythingandlaunchedamajortour;RCAalsoreleasedagreatesthitsalbum.
